Staff members of Cavallin Funeral Home are caring and experienced professionals who understand that each family is unique and has personal requests and traditions. These requests and traditions are of utmost importance to our staff of licensed funeral directors.
Jerry Cavallin, the former owner of Cavallin Funeral Home, grew up in Two Harbors, where he graduated from high school, attended the University of Minnesota-Duluth, and graduated from the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. After working part-time at Svendsen-Johnson Funeral Home through high school, he returned in 1980 to serve his internship. After the retirement of Ole Svendsen in 1982 and Waddon Johnson in 1984, Jerry bought the funeral home, and changed the name to Cavallin Funeral Home in 1990.
Jerry lives in Two Harbors, with his wife Barb, who for many years helped in the operation of the funeral home, and is now a retired school teacher. They have three adult sons, all of which have helped at the funeral home in various ways while growing up - Ben and his wife Jenna now live and work in Duluth, Alex (current owner of the funeral home) and his wife Karen live in Two Harbors, and Nate and his wife Sarah live and work in Duluth.
As a community member, Jerry is active at the First Baptist Church, served for over twenty years on the Lake View Memorial Hospital Board, and was involved in school activities during his sons’ school years. During time away from the funeral home he enjoys time with his family including six grandchildren, and time at the cabin.
Jerry appreciates the opportunity to serve the families of the North Shore during a difficult time.
Alex grew up in Two Harbors, where he graduated from high school in 2005. He went on to attend the College of St. Scholastica, where he graduated in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics and History. During this time Alex also was licensed to sell life insurance. In 2010 he graduated from the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science, and returned to Two Harbors, to serve the families of his hometown. In 2024, Alex assumed ownership from Jerry.
Alex and his wife, Karen live in Two Harbors with their two daughters, Reagan and Quinn.
