Wendell R. “Skip” Bissell, 85, Knife River, died Sunday, January 26, 2020 peacefully at his home.
Skip was born April 11, 1934 to Rawland and Wendella (Peterson) Bissell in Two Harbors, and was a life-long Knife River resident. He married Mary Ann Falk on Aug 13, 1954 and they enjoyed over 60 years together. Skip worked in maintenance for the Lake Superior School District until retiring in1989, after over 35 years of servce. He also worked as a commercial fisherman on Lake Superior.
Skip was a member of Knife River Lutheran Church, Sons of Norway, and the Loyal Order of Moose.
As a younger man he enjoyed working on race cars with his friends, hunting, fishing, and family time at the cabin.
Skip was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Ann; a grandson, Nicholas Ojard; brothers, Art and Don Bissell; and a daughter-in-law, Sandy.
He is survived by his daughter, Vicky (Gary) Ojard; a son, Tad (Shelley) Bissell; grandchildren, Justin, Heather, Seth, and Kaitlyn; great-grandchildren, Acuzio, Hazel and Landon; a brother, Phil (Lori) Bissell; a sister, Amy Bissell; and his dog, Billy.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Knife River Lutheran Church.
Visitation will be from 10 AM until the 11 AM service on Friday January 31, 2020 at Knife River Lutheran Church.
