Walter Wright Jr

Walter “Tim” Wright Jr. passed away peacefully at home, with his family by his side, Sunday, May 4, 2014.

He was born on August 13th 1925 in Two Harbors, MN to Walter “Fid” Wright and Modesta “Moddie” Catherine Novak Wright.Tim Grew up in Two Harbors, MN, was drafted into the Navy in October of 1943 where he served with the 55th Sea Bees Construction Battalion for 22 Months and 8 days. He spent the majority of his service in New Guinea and Australia.  After he was discharged from the Navy, he settled back in Two Harbors, Minnesota before attending the Milwaukee School of Engineering on the G.I. Bill. He was hired by I.B.M in 1947 and returned for additional schooling in Endicott New York. Tim Retired from I.B.M in 1979, and started his own small business selling small office equipment. He lived and raised his family in Hibbing, Minnesota, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and Duluth, MN. Tim was called back to serve in the Korean War from 1950 to 1953 where he was stationed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

Tim enjoyed many life-long friends, ballroom dancing, golfing, bowling, fishing, hunting, and playing softball until well into his eighty's. He played on a Senior World Series softball team that won the World series after playing all over the U.S. and Canada. As a pitcher, he pitched a shutout where his whole team signed the game ball for him. Tim loved to laugh and could be found at most auctions held around Duluth. He also had a fondness for buying and selling boats and motors. Tim got his motorcycle endorsement when he turned 50 and rode his beloved Honda well into his 80’s. When he reviewed the National motorcycle crash facts, he often commented "These aren't right. There are no crashes listed for anyone over 80."

Tim was married to Betty Norgren Hill Wright from 1947 until her death in 1993. He has been married to Delores Johnson for the past 18 years. Tim and Delores spent their winters in Tavares, Florida for 18 years.

He is survived by his daughters, Teresa Wright, Cathy Wright, Donna (Scott) Hanna, Jen Wright all of Duluth; and son, “Bud” Walter R. (Dido) Wright III of Shipstan on Stour, England with his family. Tim's step children are Diane Miner, Delrae Smith and Dale Johnson. He has seven grandchildren, three step grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and 18 step great-grandchildren.

They had an idyllic waterfront property on the Dora Canal in the Mid-Lakes resort community.

Visitation will be from 10 AM until the 11 AM Service Friday, May 9, 2014 at Cavallin Funeral Home in Two Harbors. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers Tim has requested that donations be made to the Duluth Intergroup for Alcoholics Anonymous.
