Vivian M. Carter, 86, Knife River, died Saturday February 11, 2012 in Edgewood Vista.
She was born April 15, 1925 to Chester and Cecelia (Kuffel) Anderson in U. S. Steel Hospital in Morgan Park. She attended Knife River School, Two Harbors High School for two years and graduated from Morgan Park High School in 1943. Vivian worked at Marshall Wells (now the Red Lobster building) for three years, and later at Kreksey's. In 1946 she and Earl Carter married and made their home in Morgan Park until moving to Knife River in 1970, where they owned and operated Carter's Greenhouse in Knife River, retiring in 1987. She was also a homemaker through the years and enjoyed crafts, sewing, gardening and playing cards. She spent winters in Leesburg, Florida for twenty years.
While living in Morgan Park Vivian was active in the PTA and bridge club and was a member of the United Protestant Church, where she served as Sunday School teacher and part-time church secretary. During her Knife River years, she enjoyed sewing club, TOPS, bridge club, the Knife River Women's Club, and was a member of Knife River Lutheran Church, where she was active in the Ladies Aid, Bible study and cleaning and decorating the church.
In 2000, she was united in a religious ceremony to Bruce Verity.
She is preceded in death by parents, her husband of 51 years Earl Carter; her second husband, Bruce Verity; a brother, Raymond Anderson, and a grandson, Joel Carter.
She is survived by her sons, Bruce Carter of Carlton, Ken (Patty) Carter of Knife River, and Keith (Susie) Carter of Duluth; a daughter, Connie Johnson of Sturgeon Lake; five grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Viv's family would like to thank the staff at Edgewood Vista, Dr. Heeb and the staff at Duluth Clinic West, and the Women of Knife River Lutheran Church.
Visitation will be from 10 AM until the 11 AM service on Tuesday February 14, 2012 at Knife River Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Two Harbors
