Vivian Bolen, 84, of Two Harbors died Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at her home at Barross Cottages II in Two Harbors.
She was born January 20, 1932 to Verner and Ina (Gustafson) Beck in Brimson. Vivian grew up in Brimson until moving with her family to Knife River Valley, outside of Two Harbors. She graduated from THHS in 1950 and married Vernon Bolen on January 10, 1953. They were married for 62 years until his death in January of 2015.
Vivian was a homemaker most of her life and worked as a rural mail carrier part-time after her children were grown. She was an active member in the VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries, as well as Women of the Moose. Prior to becoming partially disabled, Vivian enjoyed sewing, embroidery, cooking, and baking, as well as family gatherings and celebrations.
Vivian was a lifelong member of Bassett Congregational Church in Brimson. She was very proud of her Finnish heritage and demonstrated her Sisu many times throughout her life.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vernon; brothers, Melvin and John Beck; and sister, Joyce Rinne.
Vivian is survived by her daughters, Vicki (Mike) Falk, and Valerie Bolen (Heather Pipes), son, Jon Bolen; grandchildren, Faye (Brian) Linden, Tammy (Butch) Stanek, Amber (David) Oman, Nicole (Donovan) Robinson, and Joshua (Sundry) Bolen; great grandchildren, Chase Cannon, Hailey Johnson, Emma Stanek, Abby, Anna, and Dawson Oman; several sisters and brothers-in-law; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family would like to thank Cindy and the entire staff the Barross Cottages II for their excellent and loving care.
Visitation will be from 2 PM until the 3 PM Memorial Service on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Cavallin Funeral Home, followed by a lunch in the Memorial Room at the American Legion.
