We are saddened to share that our loving husband, father, brother, grandfather,and great grandfather. Our friend and neighbor, Virgil L. Jasmer went to his heavenly home at age 88 on November 2, 2020 with his beloved wife Jo of 65 years and family by his side.
Virg was born July 17, 1932 to Art and Irene Jasmer in Staples , MN.
After his school years Virg enlisted in the Navy in 1952. He was stationed in Charleston, SC on the U.S.S. Owens, a destroyer. Virgil was discharged in 1956 and spent 4 more years in the Reserves. On June 25, 1955 he married Jo Malfeo, the love of his life. He began creating a new life filled with love, family, friends and church.
Virgil worked at Reserve Mining Co. in Silver Bay until the closing in 1986. At that time, he started Jasmer Construction until returning to the new Cypress NorthShore Mining in 1989, where he worked until his retirement in 1997.
During Virgil’s life in Two Harbors, he built his home, along with a number of other homes in the area, along with many remodeling projects for many area residents.
After retiring, Virgil helped build 2 Habitat homes. He was a volunteer at the food shelf on truck day and for many years he delivered Meals on Wheels.
In 2008, he was awarded Senior Citizen for Lake County.
Virgil treasured many years at his hunting shack with family and friends, playing cards, relaxing and of course hunting.
Virgil loved working with wood, and built homes to doll houses, to barns and carved animals and furniture.
His grandkids loved their gifts from Grandpa.
Virgil was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, a lifetime member of the VFW, and a member of the American Legion Post 109.
We are thankful for the care and love that the staff of Diamond Willow, Lester Park gave Virg these past 3 years and for the care of St. Croix Hospice team.
Virgil will be remembered for his humble nature, sense of humor, kindness to all, and faithfulness to God and his family.
Virgil is survived by his wife Jo, his sons, Steven (Beth) and Scott (Renette); 3 grandchildren, Tanya, Brittany and Brandon; a great grandson Jackson; a brother and 3 sisters; and many more nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his daughter Laurie; parents; brothers Denny, Roger, Arthur, and Larry; sisters, Rosie and Iris; father and mother-In-law, Tony and Clara Malfeo; and sisters-in-law, Ione Malfeo and Ruth Martz.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Friday, November 6, 2020 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Two Harbors.
