Vi Rindahl, 92, of Grand Marais died on Friday, June 14, 2019 at North Shore Health in Grand Marais.
She was born on March 25, 1927 to Rudolph and Mary (Haas) Hansey in Cass Lake. Vi grew up and attended school in Cass Lake, Minnesota. After graduating Cass Lake High School, she attended Bemidji State Teachers College.
On June 9, 1952 she married Harley Rindahl and together they made their home in Grand Marais. Vi was employed for Cook County School District first as a Physical Education teacher and then in their A/V department. Vi and Harley started wintering in Harlingen, Texas in 1988 and she continued ever since. She had many very special friends there.
In her spare time Vi enjoyed life itself and was always trying new things. She loved being outdoors, gardening, golfing, and fishing. Everyone in both MN and TX knew her to be a great teacher, teaching everything from strategies in curling and shuffleboard to lefse making to the newest popular card game. In more recent yrs. she always had a quilt in progress with threads and scraps of material everywhere. She also quilted with Church groups in both MN and TX. She said she hated cooking but was always looking for a new recipe to try and won many awards for her fresh produce and canned goods. Always the sportsman, she often had a game on, esp. the Twins, Vikings, and MN Gophers, and would listen to the Cook Co High School games. She wasn’t afraid to “tell it like it is” and expected you to follow her advice. She was an incredible woman, loved by all. In fact, her best friend in TX, Mary Boldt, said “She was more than just a friend. She was more like my Sister.” Many who knew her felt the same. She was a great Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Teacher, and Friend who will be greatly missed!
She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband Harley; son Wally; brother Arnold Hansey and sisters Lila Parker and Norma Stebe.
She is survived by her sons Raymond (Leanne) of Waconia and Clayton (Jean) of Duluth, eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, brothers Paul Hansey, Milton (Sally) Hansey, sister Verna Chesser and several nieces, nephews and friends.
