Victoria Johnson, 97, Silver Bay passed away peacefully on Friday July 1, 2016 at Ecumen Scenic Shores in Two Harbors.
Vicki was born November 16, 1918 to Joseph and Katharine (Rozich) Peshel in Ely where she grew up and graduated from high school. She married Edwin Carl Johnson in 1942, and they lived in Williamsburg, VA, and Minneapolis, moving to Babbitt in 1953, and to Silver Bay in 1955 where they raised their six children.
Vicki was a very active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Silver Bay where she volunteered in the kitchen and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary. She made many beautiful (hand-quilted) quilts, loved playing games and was a big fan of the Minnesota Twins. She earned her driver’s license at age 75.
Vicki was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edwin in 1993; sisters, Ann Ehlers, Margaret Wuokila, Mary Kelley, and Katherine Peshel; brothers, John Peshel and Joseph Peshel Jr.
She is survived by her sons; Carl (Jeanne) Johnson of Crystal, MN, Gregory (Marilyn) Johnson and David (Joanne) Johnson of Silver Bay; daughters, Katherine (Kalvin) Swanson of Two Harbors, Margaret (Gerald) Tarman of Balsam Lake, WI, and Patricia (James) Sundstrom of Hermantown; 17 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Rose Lee Newman of Ely.
Visitation will be from 10 AM until the 11 AM Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Silver Bay. Burial will be in Silver Bay Cemetery.
