Vernon Lyle Hedin
Vernon "Vern" L. Hedin, 73, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 18, 2012 at St. Luke's Hospital with his family by his side. He will now be free of pain for all eternity.
Very was born August 31, 1938 in Two Harbors, MN to Arthur and Helen Hedin. He graduated in 1957 from Two Harbors High School and was married to his high school sweetheart, Jean "Babe" Lindquist on July 19, 1957. He worked at Reserve Mining, Barko Sales, Inc., and finally retired from LaBounty Manufacturing in 1996. Vern and Babe were also owners of Motel Two Harbors for five years before selling the property. Vern was then able to fully enjoy his retirement. He was an avid golfer and a snowbird, as he and Babe liked to go south for the winter. They spent many winters enjoying their motor home in Alabama and Mississippi. Vern also enjoyed walking, fishing and coffee every day at Judy's CafAC..
Vern was also a very active member of the youth hockey programs in both Silver Bay and Two Harbors. He spent over 40 years coaching and loving every minute. Vern was awarded the Vernon L. Hedin award in 2010 from the Two Harbors Youth Hockey Association for excellence in leadership, friendship, generosity, and dedication. He passed on his love for the game to all he coached.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur L. and Helen S. Hedin, and by his older brother Rodney L. Hedin.
Vern is survived by his wife, Babe, of 53 years and loving poodle, Angel; son Jamie (Bobbi Jo) Hedin; son Steve (Stacey) Hedin, all of Two Harbors, MN; daughter Joanne (Russ) Johnsen of Brandon, MS; grandchildren: Terry (fiancAC. Katie), Tanya, Jessica, Scott, Jennifer, Mac, and Andrew; brother Lorne (Linda) Hedin of Babbitt, MN; sister Janice Osbakken of Two Harbors, MN; sister-in-law Linda Hedin of Two Harbors, MN; brother and sister-in-law Lindy (LeeAnn) Lindquist of Merrill WI; and several nieces and nephews.
Vern loved all of his family very much. He touched the lives of many people and maintained his sense of humor throughout his life.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 21, 2012 from 5-7 pm at Cavallin Funeral Home in Two Harbors, MN. Service will be Thursday, March 22, 2012 at 1 pm at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Two Harbors, MN.
