Vernon Colden

Vernon D. Colden, 69, of Two Harbors died Saturday, January 8, 2011 at the Sunrise Home. Vernon was born October 19, 1941 to Clarence and Lillian (Tapa) Colden in Ogema Township, MN. Vern grew up and attended school in Duluth before joining the Army in 1963. He served as a dental lab technician at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland. Vern married Diane Endres in Duluth on September 27, 1965. Upon leaving the Army Vern worked at Abex Corp, Reserve Mining, Lake County, and the Moose Lodge in Two Harbors. He enjoyed being outside, listening to Bluegrass music, being a hobby mechanic, kitties, and spending time with family and friends. Vern was known for his great sense of humor, ever present readiness to help anyone, and generosity. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister, and sister Viola. Vern is survived by his wife and best friend of 45 years, Diane; children Michael of Tacoma WA, Theresa (Robert) Orso of Duluth, and Anna (Bill) Walsberg of Two Harbors; grandchildren Ricky, Ryan, Katelyn, and Joey; special friend Andy; and sister Violet Wiita of Duluth. Visitation will be from noon until the 1 PM service Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at Cavallin Funeral Home in Two Harbors. Burial will be in the Veterans section at Lakeview Cemetery. Following the burial there will be a gathering at the Moose Lodge in Two Harbors.
