Theodore Helgeson
January 28, 1938 — June 17, 2016
Ted Helgeson, 78 of Two Harbors died Friday, June 17, 2016.
He was born on January 29, 1938 in Brainerd, MN to Theodore O. and Ebba (Marengo) Helgeson. Ted graduated from Little Falls High School in 1956. He attended UMD for 2 years; spent 5 years sailing the Great Lakes for Republic Steel Corp. Then he attended Brown Institute in Minneapolis for 2 years. Ted was in the MN National Guard and worked at WDIO TV in Duluth for 4 years before obtaining the position of chief engineer at WDSE TV, which he held for 6 years. Ted was involved in planning for new studios and control rooms in the station’s new building on the UMD campus.
Ted was married to Annette Lahti for 51 years. Together they moved to Wyoming, MN where Ted was employed for NorLight Telecommunications Co. for many years, retiring in February 2000. He and Annette moved back to the Duluth, Two Harbors area in 2005.
He is preceded in death by his parents and wife, Annette.
Ted is survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins; 2 beloved Scottie dogs, Barney and Dubby; sister, Shirley (Ron) Anderson, formerly of Brainerd now of Kansas.
A small family memorial service was held at Eagle Lake Cemetery, where he and Annette were interred.
