Stephen Komarek, 67, of Two Harbors passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, April 12, 2015 at Ecumen Scenic Shores in Two Harbors, due to complications arising from cancer.
He was born on June 19, 1947 to John and Jennie A. (Larson) Komarek in Duluth. After graduating from Two Harbors High School in 1965 he served honorably in the U. S. Navy. In 1969 Steve married his sweetheart, Becky Johnson and they made their home in Two Harbors, where Steve was employed as conductor with the D M & I R Railroad. After retiring in 2007, Steve dedicated his life to relaxing and caring for his children and grandchildren.
Steve is survived by his wife, Becky; sons, Jason (Jodi) of Lake Nebagamon, and Casey (Kirsten) of Two Harbors; daughters, Stephanie (Bryan) Gray of Duluth and Tara (Mike) Kasell of Grand Rapids; and nine wonderful grandchildren, Michael Sveine, Gracie, Cole, Kinsey and Hallie Komarek, Ryan and Drew Gray, and Fletcher and Quinn Kasell.
Per his request Steve will be buried in a private family ceremony at Lakeview Cemetery in Two Harbors.
Steve’s family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and caregivers of Essentia Third Floor oncology department and Ecumen Care Center for the superb care they gave Steve in his final days.
