Ruth Ann Wizner
Ruth Ann Wizner, 83, of Two Harbors died Sunday, February 19, 2012 at St. Luke's Hospice in Duluth, MN.
A lifelong Two Harbors resident, she was born on February 28, 1928 to Andrew O. and Anna M. (Ecklind) Johnson. Her grandparents were among the pioneers of Two Harbors, with her grandfather serving as the first City Street Commissioner.
Ruth graduated as Valedictorian of the Class of 1946. She was an honor student, an accomplished pianist/organist and played the clarinet, saxophone and oboe. She was a member of the High School concert and marching bands as well as the City Band.
She graduated from The Minneapolis School of Business and worked as the personal secretary for J.C. Campbell in Duluth for several years.
Ruth married Florian J. Wizner on June 23, 1951 in Holy Ghost Catholic Church. She enjoyed life in her Two Harbors home and Bassett Lake cabin and had great love for her family and her dogs. She had a passion for flowers, gardens, playing cards and solving crossword puzzles.
Ruth served as organist at Holy Spirit Catholic Church for 13 years and this brought her much joy. She was also active in The Council of Catholic Women.
She was one of the original members of the Blue Line Club and was active in many other groups through the years, including the Women of the Moose Drill Team.
She resided at the Silver Bay Veterans Home during the final years of her life.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Florian and her parents.
She is survived by daughters Jodell Wizner of Two Harbors and Lynn (Joseph) Coda of Vallejo, CA; sons Mark (Marguerite) Wizner of Boulder, CO, and Todd (Sherri) Wizner of Onalaska, WI. Grandchildren Kerri Wizner of Honolulu, HI, BenWizner of Onalaska and Brice Wizner of Duluth. Ruth is also survived by her sister-in-law FlorAnn Wizner of Duluth and her beloved cousin Betty Ostlund of Brooklyn Park, MN.
MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: Thursday, February 23rd at 11:00a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Two Harbors. Interment at Lakeview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts are suggested to the Lake County Humane Society.
