Ruth Malmo

Lucy Malmo, 86, of Silver Bay, died Sunday, August 18, 2013, in her home.

Lucy was born June 30, 1927, to Paul and Alma Mae (Kranzfelder) Cottington in Ashland, Wisconsin, and grew up in Superior and Duluth. After graduating from Duluth Central High school in 1945, she attended Grinnell College, UMD, and the University of Minnesota, where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology in 1950. She and Thomas Malmo married on September 8, 1951, and Lucy worked in the lab at St. Luke's and St. Mary's Hospitals, until moving to Silver Bay in 1955. Lucy was a medical technologist at the Silver Bay Clinic part-time beginning in 1972 and then full-time from 1980 until retiring in 1992.

Lucy was a member of the United Protestant Church in Silver Bay, where she was organist and accompanist for over 25 years, and also served in the choir, in the women's guild, on the church council, and the diaconate. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, playing her violin, and singing. She had a love and appreciation for music.

Lucy was a woman of great faith and put her hope in Christ alone. She was a loving and deeply devoted wife and mother. She was a dear aunt to many nieces and nephews and a faithful friend and neighbor to many.

Lucy is preceded in death by an infant son. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Thomas Malmo; daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth "Beth" and Thomas Teeters of Owatonna, MN, and Paula and Ralph Romano of Duluth, MN; son Timothy Malmo of Rosemount, MN; grandchildren MaryBeth Teeters Swanson (John David), Melissa Teeters, Christopher Teeters (Lindsay), Allison Romano Asfahl (Matthew), Ryan Romano; great-grandchildren Liam and Theodore Teeters, John Thomas "JT" and Isaac Swanson. And she was expecting another great-grandson from the Asfahls on August 29.

Visitation will be from 10 am until the 11 am service on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at the United Protestant Church in Silver Bay. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Duluth, at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the United Protestant Church, 17 Horn Boulevard, Silver Bay, MN 55614.
