Ronald Ranta

Ronald Ranta, 79, of Grand Portage, died peacefully, Sunday, March 2, 2014 at the Cook County North Shore Care Center.
He was born November 25, 1934 to Oscar and Viola (Jacobson) Ranta in Negaunee, Michigan. Ron grew up in Palmer, Michigan, and attended school in Negaunee. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the Air Force, and was stationed in Greenland. After four years of service, he returned to the United States and lived in various locations. He married Judy Deschampe in 1970, and they lived in Duluth and Cloquet before moving to Grand Portage in 2004. Ron enjoyed going to the casino, and spending time with his grandsons.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and his son Ronald.
Ron is survived by his wife of 43 years, Judy; his daughter, Melissa Ranta; grandsons, James and Davin Ranta, all of Grand Portage; sister, Lilly Guay of Negaunee, and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 11 AM on Friday, March 7, 2014 at Mount Rose Community Church in Grand Portage.
