Ronald Ostendorf

February 22, 1930 — May 30, 2016

Ronald John Ostendorf, 86, of Two Harbors died Monday, May 30, 2016, at the Minnesota Veteran's Home in Silver Bay.

He was born February 22, 1930 to Joseph and Clara Ostendorf in Sauk Centre, MN.  Ron grew up on the family farm near Sauk Centre.  After the 8th grade he worked on various farms before being drafted into the United States Army in 1954.  He received an honorable discharge in 1956 and worked for Emblem Construction until 1957.

On October 15th, 1957, he married JoAnn Peterson and moved to Two Harbors where he began working for Cooperative Light and Power.  He worked for the Co-op for 38 1/2 years, retiring in 1995.

Ron was an avid hunter spending fall days hunting birds with his dogs Spitz, Bruno and Spike.  He enjoyed trap shooting on several different leagues bringing home many trophies. Weekends were spent camping and snowmobiling with family and friends.

He was a quiet, yet strong man who believed in hard work.  Above all else, his family was most important to him.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, JoAnn, his parents, and siblings Joe, Joan, Donna, and Diane.

Ron is survived by his children; son, Keith; daughters Kim Austen, Karen (Keith) Gray, Kathy (Steve) Plehal, Kristi (Mike) Aho; 12 grandchildren, Kelly, Heather, Corey, Diana, Jonathan, Melissa, Jeffrey, Derek, Trevor, Shannah, Garrett and Tanner; 11 great-grandchildren; sister Marion Sauer; brothers Fred and Larry; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at 10 AM until the 11 AM Mass of Christian burial Monday June 6, 2016 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Two Harbors.
