Ronald Clement Sr., age 84, of Silver Bay passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on September 21, 2018 at the Minnesota Veteran’s Home in Silver Bay.
Ron was born on July 31, 1934 to Louis and Lillian (Page) Clement in Ashland, WI. Ron grew up in Saxon, WI and graduated from Saxon High School in 1953. He married Geraldine Bott, his high school sweetheart, on May 21, 1955. In 1955 he enlisted in the US Army and served in Germany from 1955-57. Ron was employed as a millwright at Reserve Mining Company in Silver Bay, MN until 1986. After the plant closed he worked at LTV in Hoyt Lakes and Taconite Harbor until his retirement.
Ron was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and served for 21 years on the Silver Bay Volunteer Fire Department.
Ron and Gerry loved to travel. Ron also enjoyed fishing, hunting, old cars, and tinkering in his garage. He coached his children in baseball and softball. He loved cheering at his grandchildren’s hockey games and all other sporting events. He enjoyed all their concerts and other school and church activities. He was a very proud Grandpa.
Preceding him in death are his parents and brother, Glen Clement. Ron is survived by his wife of 63 years, Gerry; daughter Pamela (Rick) Correll of Buffalo; son Dale (Chris) Clement of Silver Bay; daughters Julie (Dean) Johnson, of Duluth; and Paula (Guy) LeBlanc of Hermantown; 13 grandchildren Erica (Brad) Fiske, Heather (Justin) Straight, Katie and Aaron Correll, Ryle (Joe) Acker, Ron, Rob, and Randy Clement, Jenna (Darrin) Dzuck, Jake Johnson, Drew (Chelsea), Brian, and Jack LeBlanc; 11 great-grandchildren, Drake, Avery, Bryce, Carson, Blane, Louis, Jamie, Matthew, Kylie, Jaxson, and Sofina.
The family of Ron Clement would like to thank all the staff of the Silver Bay Veteran’s Home for taking such excellent care of Ron and for being so supportive, kind, and caring to his family.
Visitation will be on Friday, September 28, from 10-11am, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Silver Bay. Burial will follow at Sawtooth Mountain Cemetery.
