Moko Carlson, 78, Two Harbors, died Monday, October 22, 2012 at Solvay Hospice House in Duluth after a brief illness.
He was born May 31, 1934 to Alf and Lillian (Nelson) Carlson in Two Harbors, where he was a lifelong resident. After graduating from high school in 1952, Moko served in the Army for 2 years. He returned home and worked various jobs, including his welding business and the DM&IR Railroad, before purchasing O & N Oil Company. Moko owned and operated O & N Oil Comp. for 20 years, after which he managed Como Oil for 5 years until his retirement.
He was known for his sense of humor and as a "Mr. Fix-It", with a knack for repairing just about anything. He enjoyed the cabin at Kane Lake, fishing trips, wintering in Green Valley, Arizona for the past 19 years. But most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Moko served on the Two Harbors Volunteer Fire Department for 23 years, and was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Moose Club, and had served on the American Legion Drill Team.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Lee Carlson.
Moko is survived by his wife, Marlene; sons, Randy (Cindy) Nordskog of Duluth and Larry (Pam) Carlson of Two Harbors; a daughter Julie (Gregg) Peterson of Eden Prairie; grandchildren, Claire and Ben Nordskog, Eric and Emily Carlson, and Jordan and Halle Peterson; a sister, Carole (Howard) Udenberg of Two Harbors; a sister-in-law, Marge (Frank) Contardo of Green Valley, AZ.; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Solvay Hospice House, 801 Baylis St. Duluth, MN 55811 or the American Cancer Society.
Visitation will be from 9:30 AM until the 11 AM funeral on Friday October 26, 2012 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Two Harbors. Burial will be Lakeview Cemetery.
