Roger Simonson

May 2, 1937 — June 11, 2016

Roger Simonson, 79, of Two Harbors, died suddenly on Saturday June 11, 2016 at Lake View Memorial Hospital with his wife at his side.

He was born on May 2, 1937 to Roy and Elizabeth (Sandvik) Simonson in Two Harbors, where he was a life-long resident. After graduating from high school in 1955 he was employed by the City of Two Harbors for 41 years, retiring in1997 as City Administrator. Over those years he also served on various boards and commissions including the Two Harbors City Council, City Planning Commission, Library Board, Two Harbors Federal Credit Union Board, Two Harbors Industrial Council and the Community Health Center. He also served in the Minnesota Army National Guard from 1959 to 1965.

Roger was a lifelong member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, and in 1982 was recognized as Two Harbors Citizen of the Year.

He enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing and weekly card games for over 40 years.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley; daughters, Brenda (Dennis) Hinsley of Omaha and Barbara (Terry) Bolen of Chanhassen; grandchildren, Amber, Lance, Maria, Matthew and Michael; great-grandchildren, Jade and Joseph; a sister, Ann (Charles) Holm; and many nieces, nephews and in-laws.

Visitation will be from Noon until the 1 PM service on Thursday June 16, 2016 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Two Harbors.
