Roger Paul Jacobson, 54, of Silver Bay passed away in the comfort of his home on December 13, 2021, surrounded by his wife and children, after a brief, courageous battle with cancer.
Roger was born on July 25, 1967, in Jamestown, North Dakota, to Julian and LaVonne (Evanson) Jacobson. He graduated from Larimore High School in 1985 and in 1989 earned a business management degree from the University of Minnesota Crookston, where he met the love of his life, Gretchen Marie Kaiser.
Roger and Gretchen married on October 12, 1991, at Faith Lutheran Church in Silver Bay and began their married life in Crookston, Minnesota. After starting their family, they moved to Silver Bay in 1993, made Faith Lutheran their lifelong church home, and raised three children whom Roger was incredibly proud to call his own.
In March 2005, Roger fulfilled his lifelong dream of owning a restaurant when he opened Jimmy’s Pizza in Silver Bay. He spent countless hours at the shop, typically open to close. However, he wouldn’t have had it any other way. Through his work, he touched the lives of many within the community. He continued running the business from behind the scenes until days before his passing, as his business was just that important to him.
Roger had a passion for the outdoors, including hunting and fishing as much as he could. He was thrilled to spend one last deer season in the woods with his son. When he couldn’t be outdoors, you could surely find him with a hunting magazine by his side. He will always be remembered for his kind and caring heart, as well as his incredible pizza.
Roger was preceded in death by his infant brothers, Brian and Lyle, and by his father.
Roger is survived by his wife of 30 years, Gretchen; children Justin (Jessica Graham) Jacobson and their infant son Beau of Duluth, Alexis Jacobson (Zach Torgerson) and their infant son Charlie Torgerson of Two Harbors, and Sabrina Jacobson of Duluth; his loving mother, LaVonne Jacobson of Larimore, North Dakota; siblings Cathy (Steve) Bowman of New Rockford, North Dakota, Larry (Denise) Jacobson of Larimore, Jon Jacobson of Crookston, Minnesota, and Janelle Brandl (Mark Steinke) of Grand Forks, North Dakota; parents-in-law Charles and Judy Kaiser of Silver Bay; brothers-in-law Kent Kaiser of St. Paul, Minnesota, and Ward (Lizette) Kaiser of Silver Bay; eight nieces and nephews; and many special friends.
A private service will be held. Public visitation will be held on Saturday, December 18, from 2-4pm at Faith Lutheran Church in Silver Bay. Special thanks to Moments Hospice for their amazing care of Roger in his final days at home and Faith Lutheran Church’s Pastor Troy Peperkorn for providing many hours of spiritual and emotional support throughout Roger’s battle with cancer.
