Robert George Whiteford, 81, Silver Bay, passed away Tuesday April 9, 2013 in the Minnesota Veteran's Home, from complications of Parkinson's disease.
Bob was born April 26, 1931 to James and Edna (Buckmaster) Whiteford in Barron County, Wisconsin, where he attended grade school and graduated from high school.
He moved to Silver Bay in 1955 to work for Reserve Mining Company and after serving in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958, returned to Silver Bay to raise his family. After retiring in 1986, he returned to work for Cyprus Minerals in 1989, and retired again in 1995. He enjoyed bowling, golf, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, a baby daughter, and three brothers, Harold, Jim and Stan.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; a son, Rob (KyoungHee) Whiteford of Inver Grove Heights; daughters, Darcy (Paul) Holden of Finland, and Jill (Howard) Mahurin of Raeford, NC; grandchildren, Jeremy (Natalie) Holden, Grace Whiteford, Maxee Whiteford, and Donovan J. Mahurin; a brother Gordon (Laura) Whiteford; and sisters, Ethel Ellison, Carol (Mervin) Berger, and Elaine Thompson. Bob's family would like to thank the staff at the Minnesota Veteran's Home for the wonderful care they provided. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the United Protestant Church in Silver Bay, Parkinson's Disease Research Foundation or the Minnesota Veteran's Home.
Visitation will be from 10 AM until the 11 AM Memorial Service, Saturday, April 13, 2013 at the United Protestant Church in Silver Bay.
