Robert G. "Bob" Swindlehurst, 81, Silver Bay, died Christmas Day, December 25, 2013 at Essentia Health St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth.
He was born May 5, 1932 to George and Maude (Anderson) Swindlehurst in Two Harbors, where he grew up and attended school. After graduating from high school, Bob attended UMD for two years and then enlisted in the Army and served in the Army Security Agency during the Korean conflict. Upon discharge from the Army, he returned to UMD and finished his degree.
On June 6, 1959 Bob married Margaret Paun of Ely, MN. Bob worked at the First National Bank in Virginia for a short time before accepting a position in the accounting office at Reserve Mining in Silver Bay. After several years, Bob transferred to the Industrial Relations department as an employment officer, where he worked until 1986.
From 1986 until his retirement in 1997, Bob worked for LTV Mining; first in Hoyt Lakes in the accounting office and then at the LTV power plant in Schroeder as an office manager.
Bob enjoyed the outdoors and took his family on many fishing, hunting and camping trips. He also enjoyed photography, golfing, woodworking and painting. He was a member of the North Shore Barbershoppers, the Silver Bay Curling Club and the Senior Citizen Workshop in Silver Bay.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and brother Jack.
He is survived by his wife, Marge; children David (Mary) of York Springs, PA, Mary Kay of St. Michael, MN, Michael (Karen Futterer) of Grand Marais, MN and Paul of Minneapolis, MN; and 2 grandchildren, Nicole (Ryan) Kalland and Vaughn Swindlehurst as well as extended family and friends.
Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the 11:00 AM funeral on Monday, December 30, 2013 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Silver Bay.
