April 12, 1931 — December 4, 2020

Silver Bay

Robert C. Oslund, 89, of Silver Bay, died on Friday, December 4, 2020 at Essentia Health St. Mary’s Medical Center.  He was so appreciative of the care he received there.

Bob was born April 12, 1931 in St.Paul to Willis and Martha (Moenke) Oslund. He grew up in Forest Lake, graduating from Forest Lake High School in 1949.  After serving in the U.S. Navy Seabees for four years, he returned to Minnesota and graduated from Augsburg College in St. Paul.  Later, in 1970, he earned his Master of Arts degree in English from the University of Minnesota-Duluth.

In 1959 Bob moved to Silver Bay as an English teacher where he taught English at William Kelley High School for 34 years.  This is where he met Betty Rachow, another young teacher. In 1960 they were married and have made their home in Silver Bay since that time.  After retiring, Bob and Betty enjoyed traveling, visiting all 50 states and a number of other countries.

Bob was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church in Silver Bay. He enjoyed reading, working on his ipad, puttering in the garage, rearranging his railroad layout in the basement, exploring the area in his pickup, hiking and fishing.  He had many memorable canoe trips with his teaching buddies and always wanted Betty to take pictures of the fish he caught.  He thought his four granddaughters were the most beautiful and special people in the world and loved teasing them and telling them stories.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Yvonne Pearson and Karen Oslund.  He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty; a son, Kent (Lina) Oslund and their daughter Jenny Grace of Moorpark, California; and a daughter, Jill (Ted) Dasler and their children, Sara, Sarani, and Casey of Marshfield, Wisconsin.

Private services will be held.  Memorials may be directed to Faith Lutheran Church, Silver Bay.
