Robert Olson

Robert R. “Bob” Olson, 79, of Grand Marais Minnesota died Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at North Shore Health in Grand Marais. He was born in Superior, WI on April 6, 1945, to Richard and Roberta (Findlay) Olson. He grew up and attended schools in Duluth, MN where he taught at Lowell Elementary for 34 years.

After his retirement, he and Kay built their house on the Gunflint Trail. Bob was an Eagle Scout and had a passion for the outdoors; his favorite activities included fishing, camping and snowmobiling. He loved to fix things which led to being a handyman of the area. He created wood carvings and wrote six books that have been published.

Bob is survived by his wife Kay, daughter Joan (Andy) Olson, sister Jan (John) Holt and numerous cousins. Preceding him in death were his parents and grandparents, Robert and Helen Findlay and Alfred and Lily Olson.

Visitation will be Friday, October 18 at 12 PM followed by the service at 1 PM at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Grand Marais. Fellowship time to follow service. In lieu of flowers, Bob’s family is requesting donations to Bethlehem Lutheran Church Youth Services or North Shore Health Hospital.
