Robert Munson

August 17, 1930 — February 23, 2014

Rev. Robert J. Munson, 83, Two Harbors, passed from his earthly home to his heavenly home on Sunday February 23, 2014.

Bob was born August 17, 1930 to Lewis and Sarah Nellie (Russell) Munson Sr. on the family farm in Randall, Minnesota. He attended a one room schoolhouse through eighth grade, and graduated from Little Falls High School in 1948. In the fall of 1948 he entered the U. S. Navy and served in Guam, spent fifty days at sea towing a ship to dry dock in San Francisco, then served aboard a repair ship in Japan during the Korean War. Living the "life a sailor", Bob came to know the Lord as his Savior in 1951.

After his discharge in 1952, he returned to San Diego, where he had met Shirley, and they were married December 28, 1952. Together they entered Linda Vista Baptist Bible College in San Diego. Bob graduated with a bachelor of arts in theology, and later attended Denver Theological Seminary for his master's degree. During his education he served as a pastor at the Servicemen's Center in San Diego and at a church in nearby Harbison Canyon.

April 1967 found Bob, Shirley, and their five children returning to Minnesota. Bob worked at his brother's furniture store, farmed in the Little Falls area, and served as a pastor at Evangelical Free churches in Burtrum and Freedhem. In 1977, Bob and Shirley moved to Two Harbors, where he served as pastor of Grace Baptist Church for 14 years.

After "retiring" he opened Bob's Sewing and Vac Repair, and worked as a tour guide for the Lake County Historical Society. Bob enjoyed traveling, model trains, and lighthouses.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Kenneth, and a sister, Nellie Zacharda. Bob is survived by his wife, Shirley; a son, Timothy (Deb) of Billings, MT; daughters, Sherrill Munson of Duluth, Cindy Weber of Deer River, Julia Alvarez and Becky Munson of Two Harbors; two brothers, Lewis of Pequot Lakes, and Emmett of Pine River; a sister, Sarah Schneider of Sumner, WA; 9 grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 10 AM until the 11 AM service on Saturday March 1, 2014 at Grace Baptist Church in Two Harbors. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Grace Baptist Church.
