Bob Kind, Badge #317, of Silver Bay, died Monday, January 25, 2016 at Carefree Living in Silver Bay at the age of 84 years.
Bob was born on September 9, 1931 to Albert and Louise (Fischer) Kind in Red Wing, Minnesota. He grew up in Hager City, Wisconsin, and graduated from high school in Ellsworth, Wisconsin. He married the love of his life, Lois Peterson on October 13, 1951, and in 1952 was drafted into the U. S. Army. He was discharged as a Corporal in 1954, and returned to Red Wing where he worked as a television repairman until joining the Minnesota State Patrol in 1961. It was at this time he and Lois moved to Silver Bay, where they made their home and where Bob worked his entire career with the State Patrol. During his career, he and his pistol team won 11 state shooting championships, and he won an additional three individual state championships. He retired as a Corporal and Safety Education Officer in 1990.
Bob also served his community first on the City Council and later as Mayor of Silver Bay for over 20 years. He was also a 50-year Firearm Safety Instructor, and was a member of Sychar Lutheran Church.
He enjoyed time spent with friends and family, hunting, fishing, bowling, cribbage, story-telling, caretaking a Lake Superior cabin, and traveling with friends and family.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Lois in 2015, and a brother Don Kind.
He is survived by a daughter Gail (Ken) Amundson of Richfield; grandsons, Jacob and Robert of Richfield; brothers, Pete (Sandy) Kind, Bill (Connie) Kind, Joe (Pat) Kind; sister, Janice (Marlin) Torseth; sister-in-law Maureen Kind; many other relatives, friends, and a “second daughter”, Deb.
Visitation will be from 10 AM until the 11 AM service on Saturday January 30, 2016 at Sychar Lutheran Church in Silver Bay. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred.
