Two Harbors

Richard Carlson, 79, of Two Harbors, died Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at Lake View Memorial Hospital with his family at his side.

Dick was born March 21, 1943 in Minneapolis to Robert Carlson and Hildur (Peterson). After graduating from high school, he served in the U.S. Army from 1961 until 1964 stationed in France. He was employed by Reserve Mining Company for several years and later worked for the City of Two Harbors as liquor store manager until his retirement.

Dick was a long-time member of the American Legion, serving as Commander, and also for many years on its honor guard. He was also a member of Moose Lodge and served countless hours as a volunteer for the Salvation Army and the Minnesota Veteran’s Home in Silver Bay.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, shooting, baseball games, especially the Twins, and the Minnesota Vikings.

Dick was preceded in death by his father, Robert; his mother and step-father, Hildur and Ralph Sandvik; brother, Jim; and an infant son.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carole; a son, Mark (Julie) Carlson; grandson, Spencer; siblings Darla (Gary) Meier, Robert (Char) Lake, Pete (Suzie) Carlson, John (Debbie) Carlson, and Wendie Carlson; his in-laws, the Hurd family; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Lake County Humane Society or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Services will be held at 2 PM on Sunday, May 15, 2022 at Living Waters Fellowship in Two Harbors. Burial with military honors will be in Lakeview Cemetery.
