Raymond "Tussa" Peterson 86, of Two Harbors, died Friday November 22, 2013 at Ecumen Scenic Shores in Two Harbors, from complications of Parkinson's Disease.

He was born February 11, 1927 to Gilbert and Emma (West) Peterson in Two Harbors, where he grew up and graduated from high school. Upon graduation, Tussa enlisted in the Navy and served on the USS Oklahoma City. He returned home and married Lois Anderson on June 19, 1948 in Two Harbors, where they raised their family. He worked as a machinist for the DM&IR Railroad, was a partial owner of Ready Mix, and was a part time owner of Mobil Oil in Two Harbors. Tussa also worked as a heavy equipment operator and mechanic for the 49ers until his retirement in 1990. He was a member of the Moose, VFW, and the Voyageurs Snowmobile Club. Tussa enjoyed helping and spending time with his family.

He was a kind, gentle man who cared deeply for his entire family, his time in the US Navy, his country, and its flag. Every time he heard the "Star Spangled Banner" he stood up, and proudly placed his hand on his heart with tears in his eyes.

Tussa is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Willie; and sister, Esther.
