Ray Runkel, 70, Two Harbors, entered into eternity on Monday, December 13, 2010 unexpectedly at home.
Ray was born February 25, 1940 in Treverton, Pennsylvania to Lester and Gertie (Crissinger) Runkle. He grew up in Pennsylvania, and later served in the U. S. Air Force where he was a technical illustrator and taught in a military school. He continued to work for the federal government as a technical illustrator for several years, then operated a landscape business in New York for several years.
He graduated from Christ for the Nations College in Texas and served as a hospital chaplain and later a campground chaplain. He moved to Minnesota in 2007. Ray enjoyed woodworking, illustrating, boating, landscaping, sculpting and photography. He was a member of the National Rifle Association.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Earl.
Ray will be remembered for his servant's heart, his devotion to God, his upbeat personality, and his sense of humor.
He is survived by his loving wife, TyLa DeVonna and cat Leonardo; step-children, Adam James Ward, Nicole JoElle Williams and BrieAnna Danielle( Daniel) Wakemup; six step-grandchildren; a brother, Clarence (Marie) Runkle of Sellersville, PA; nephews, Scott (Karla) and Michael (Desiree) Runkle and a niece Joann (Jeffrey) Allen. Services will be held 1 PM Monday, December 20, 2010 at Cavallin Funeral Home in Two Harbors, followed by burial at Lakeview Cemetery, Two Harbors.
