Randy L. Rustad, 56 of Duluth, formerly of Two Harbors, died Saturday, March 26, 2011 at Solvay Hospice House in Duluth after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born October 1, 1954 in Duluth to Everett and Lucille (Mathisen) Rustad. Randy grew up in Two Harbors, and graduated from Two Harbors High School. Randy worked various jobs during his life, including work at the creamery in Two Harbors, and at various Milk Houses, and taught Driver's Education. He also worked as an ice distributor and last as a bread distributor doing business as Ran D Distributing for Brownberry's/Bimbo's, which he did for about 20 years. He spent many long hours on the road but had friends at every stop he made.
Randy used to do a lot of golfing, taught both of his sons to golf and had planned to teach his grandson this summer. He was a member of Two Harbors and Duluth Bowling Leagues and was a past member of the Two Harbors Jaycees and Moose Lodge. He enjoyed playing cards, especially beating his sisters! Most of all, Randy loved to sing karaoke, solos or beautiful duets with Renee (Al) Birman. He was a regular at Mary's and the Reef, both in Duluth, and sang other places too.
Randy was a man with a smile on his face and a huge heart, which he shared with his many family and friends. He kept up an upbeat attitude, a ready smile and sense of humor. He spent his last days at Solvay Hospice House. The staff of Solvay and the staff of Essentia Health were exceptional and we owe them many thanks for their wonderful care for Randy.
He is preceded in death by his father, Everett, a special uncle, Allen Mathisen, nephew, Anthony Lind, and love of his life, Debbie.
Randy is survived by his sons, Justin and Aaron; grandson, Cooper Rustad, and granddaughter, Keeley Pellman all of Two Harbors; his mother, Lucille Rustad of Duluth, brothers, Philip (Sue) of Siren, WI, Larry (Tami) of Duluth, and Danny (Nancy) of Plymouth; sisters, Sandra Lind, Peggy (Jan) Wren, and Debby (Gary) Putney, all of Duluth; favorite cousin, Dawn (Doug) Becker; best friends, Rolf Mattson and Jim Nicolaison; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Friday at Cavallin Funeral Home in Two Harbors, and continue from 1 PM until the 2 PM service on Saturday April 2, 2011 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Two Harbors. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Solvay Hospice House or Essentia Health - 3rd Floor Cancer and Hospice Unit.
