Matthew 25:21 "Well done, good and faithful servant!"
Ralph J. O'Day, 99, of Two Harbors passed away Tuesday, January 27, 2015
at the Lake View Memorial Hospital after a brief illness with family at his side.
Ralph was born January 17, 1916 in St. Paul, Minnesota and a resident of Two
Harbors from the age of five until his passing. Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Angeline; brothers, William, Leonard; sisters Eleanor, Leona, and Alice.
Ralph is survived by his wife, Veronica "Jean"; daughter Wendy, of Spearfish, South Dakota; and son Daniel, of Dana Point, California.
Ralph will be remembered as a devoted husband, great father and gracious friend to many. He was and remains our family hero and always the voice of reason, guidance, encouragement and endless kindness. He met life and it's challenges with will and resolve and inspired us daily with his spirit, humor, quiet dignity and high standards.
He was an avid outdoors man enjoying hunting with his many friends and fishing the shores of Lake Superior. Later years touring the country with friends in motor homes and visiting many states with family along the way. A wizard with crossword puzzles and loved a good game of cribbage with friends. Always a devoted fan of those perennial heartbreakers, the Minnesota Vikings!
Ralph was employed for over 40 years with the DM&IR Railroad retiring as a conductor in 1983 and enjoying a long retirement. He served his country in the U.S. Army and was a WWII veteran and on that great effort while stationed in England met the love of his life, Veronica, marrying on July 5, 1945 and creating a rich and full life in a marriage lasting over 69 years until his passing.
To all the health care professionals at St. Luke's Hospital, Ecumen Scenic Shores and Lake View Memorial Hospital who assisted Ralph over the years we as a family offer our "heartfelt thank you" for all your dedicated care and kindness.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests to consider a donation to a worthy cause or charity of your choice.
Service will be held at 11 AM Saturday, February 7, 2015 at Living Waters Fellowship in Two Harbors.
