Peter W. Sande (aka Super Grandpa), 85, of Two Harbors passed away on September 1, 2017. He died surrounded by family after a long battle with cancer.
He graduated from Two Harbors High School, was a veteran of the Korean War and worked as a brakeman for over forty years for the DM&IR. Often referred to as “Crackshot Pete”, he loved hunting, fishing, and being surrounded by nature. He took great joy in spending time on his farm and with his family growing gardens, harvesting maple syrup, and being late to dinner.
Pete was preceded in death by his wife Pearl and his son Peter. He is survived by his daughters Jaren Strommer (Jim Strommer), Kristie Sande (Paul Guthrie), Alyce Sande (Michael Yaw) and Andrea Sande (Don Harju). He cherished his time with his grandchildren Tessa, Mara, Anna, Ruby, Pablo, Diego, Fynn and Ilo, and was blessed to have two great grandchildren Leif and Axel. Pete was also very close with his nephew Dan Evans. They spent many hunting seasons together at the shack seeing who could shoot the biggest buck and win the most hands of cribbage. He opened his heart and home to many too numerous to name.
Special thanks to Charity Ellestad and Bradly Anderson for the care and kindness they provided during the last year of life.
A memorial service will be held Monday, September 11 at 1:00 pm at the United Church, 531 3rd Avenue, Two Harbors, MN.
