Peter Melnotte, 74, of Silver Bay, passed into the Lord’s presence on Saturday May 12, 2018 at St. Luke’s Hospital.
Peter was born November 22, 1943 to Claude and Jennie (Leinonen) Melnotte in Galveston, TX. As a very young child, Peter moved with his family to Northern Minnesota, where he grew up and graduated from Cherry High School. He served in the US Navy before marrying Prudence Carol Langlois on December 31, 1964. Together they moved to Chisholm where Peter briefly worked as a baker until moving to the North Shore in 1966. Peter was employed by Reserve Mining, until the plant closed in 1987. He worked at LTV Steel in Aurora and the Split Rock Lighthouse, before returning to the plant when it reopened. Peter retired from North Shore Mining in 2006.
His main passions were traveling with the love of his life, Prudence, and playing guitar. Peter especially enjoyed playing with Casey Aro and Mike Holbeck. He also made several musical instruments, fixed others, and enjoyed riding motorcycle, teaching Prue to ride.
Peter was preceded in death by his brother, Daniel Robert Melnotte and his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Prudence; son, Rob (KarLa) Melnotte of Iron; grandsons, Trent Daniel and Caleb Ray Melnotte; and sister, Janice (Rick) Schmid of Hibbing.
Visitation will be from 3 PM until the 4 PM service on Thursday, May 17th, 2018 at Palisade Baptist Church in Silver Bay. Burial will be in Sawtooth Mountain Cemetery.
