Patricia Marietta Held Lorntson of Beaver Bay and Ecumen Scenic Shores Assisted Living Center of Two Harbors passed away on Friday, September 7, 2018. A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 12 at the United Protestant Church in Silver Bay at 11 AM. After the service there will be a luncheon served in the fellowship hall.
Pat was born October 9, 1928 in Medford, Wisconsin to John and Mabel Held. The family, including Pat's brother John Jr. and sister Alice, lived in numerous locations and finally settled in Duluth, Minnesota. Pat graduated from Denfeld High School and began her college education at UMD. She met her love of life, Martin (Mickey) and they were married on June 18, 1948. Pat discontinued her studies in favor of being a wife and mother and together with Mickey raised their family consisting of four rather active sons. She then returned to UMD when the boys grew older and finished her education degree, and eventually taught at the elementary school in Silver Bay. In addition to her teaching career, Pat also continued her involvement in her passion for music. She played the violin in numerous settings and also gave violin lessons. Pat was also an accomplished seamstress, making many clothes for her family, including sweaters and embroidered shirts. Pat was a charter member of the United Protestant Church, and served as its treasurer for many years.
Pat is survived by her husband Mickey, and her four children, John, Tom (Carol), Bill (Annie), and Dick (Nancy), 7 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren, and her sister Alice. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Mabel, her brother John Jr., and her infant son Timothy.
