Odelia (Deel) Eva Welle Hoffman, 99 of Two Harbors passed away peacefully on January 12, 2018 in Detroit Lakes after suffering a stroke on November 20th and has gone to heaven to be with God and Charles.
Deel was born on April 23, 1918 in Freeport to Leo and Barbara Welle. She was a loving mother and inspiration to all that knew her.
She enjoyed the North Shore, time spent with family at birthday parties, was an enthusiastic bridge player, always had her apartment door open and had a drink every evening.
Deel was educated in Albany graduating from Albany High School and Minneapolis Business College. First employed as Deputy Register of Deeds in St. Cloud. She was instrumental at Northwoods Pioneer Gallery and Gifts, joining in 1972 serving on the Board of Directors, as President and Shop Coordinator. She spent 10 years with the Two Harbors Chamber of Commerce Visitors’ Center, and gave tours of the Edna G., Split Rock Lighthouse and the 3M Museum. A regular volunteer with the American Cancer Society, American Legion Auxiliary and the Two Harbors Public Library and member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church.
Deel was awarded with the Two Harbors Citizen of the Year Award in 2003 and 2015.
Preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Barbara Welle, husband Charles Hoffman, siblings; Evelyn Welle, Sylvester Welle, Leona Ahles, Ervin Welle, Roman Welle, John Welle and Daniel Welle, Grandsons; Kurt Hoffman and Kenneth Hoffman, Great Grand Daughter Alyssa Frederick.
She is survived by her siblings Marina Hohman of Maplewood, Magdeline (Macky) Anderson of Litchfield, Children: James (Faye) Hoffman of Hastings; Gretchen (Bill) Walther of Callaway; Philip (Nancy) Hoffman of The Villages, FL; Thomas (Kim) Hoffman of Gloucester, VA; Jane (Gary) Grossinger of Kimball as well as 11 Grandchildren, 26 Great Grandchildren and 4 Great Great Grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 PM until the 8 PM Rosary Service on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at Cavallin Funeral Home and will continue from 10 AM until the 11 AM Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, January 17 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Two Harbors. Burial will be at Silver Creek Cemetery.
