Neil Soderstrom

Neil Soderstrom, 74, of Wingdale, NY, died Saturday, March 3, 2018 after a brief fight with cancer.

Neil was born March 31, 1943 to William and Mabel (Anderson) Soderstrom in Two Harbors and graduated with the class of 1961. He graduated with a degree in Journalism from Principia University in Elsah, IL (where he played football). While serving in the U.S. Army in Alexandria Virginia, he met and married his beloved wife of 50 years, Hannelore.

Over the years, Neil worked as English instructor, magazine editor, book editor, editorial director—freelancing all the while as writer, photographer, and book producer/author agent.  ​​Author/photographer of countless magazine and newspaper articles as well as four books. Book and magazine publishers have licensed more than 3,000 of his photos.

Neil enjoyed a wide variety of outdoor activities, from gardening to hiking around his home near the Appalachian Trail.

Neil is preceded in death by his parents and brother Robert.

He is survived by his wife Hannelore; son, Nikolai (Robin) of Arlington VA; and grandchildren, Natalie and Troy; sister-in-law Sonja Soderstrom, niece Krista (Roger) Lauritzen, nephews Grant (Lynn) Soderstrom, Brian (Tracy) Soderstrom, and Eric (Kathy) Soderstrom; great nieces and nephews Kurt, Emma, Erin, Lars (Cecilie), Kai, Kristine (Eddie), Tor, Ria, Brianna (Casey); great grand nieces and nephews as well as many other extended family and friends.

A celebration of life will be held later this Spring.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
