Nancy Malone

Nancy Lee Malone, 80, of Silver Bay, MN, formerly of Willmar, MN, passed away peacefully at her home on September 26, 2013.

Nancy was born in Indianapolis, Indiana to Dr. Joseph S. and Elizabeth I. Smith on January 19, 1933. She went to high school in Hot Springs, South Dakota and graduated in 1951. She married 'Sam' Malone in 1953 and they lived in Springfield, Missouri and Columbia, Missouri and Ann Arbor, Michigan and worked as a secretary while Sam was earning two masters degrees. They moved to Battle Creek, Michigan where their first two children were born. They later moved to Willmar, Minnesota in May 1961 where they settled and eventually had their third child. Nancy was a homemaker when her children were young. She was also a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority and a member of the 1st Church of Christ, Scientist in Willmar. She earned her AA degree in 1975 at Willmar Community College where she graduated with the highest GPA of her class. She was widowed in 2001 and moved to Silver Bay, MN in 2003 to be near her daughters. Nancy loved movies, word games, sewing, cooking, her cats, helping with the West Central Concert series, and visiting with family and friends.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Betty; and her husband, Sam.

Nancy is survived by her brothers Rev. Kincaid (& Carol) Smith of Mankato, MN and David (& Samolea) Smith of Battle Creek, Michigan; son Philip (& Tamara) Malone of Willmar; daughters Annie (& Rich) Andrus and Polly (Mark Nyman) Malone, both of Silver Bay; and six grandchildren a�"Desiree & Isaac Malone, Sam & Max Andrus, and Joshua & Maddie Malone.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to both Cavallin Funeral Home of Two Harbors, MN and the staff of Essentia Health St. Mary's Hospice of Duluth, MN for their caring support in her final days.

A small graveside service was held at Fort Snelling Cemetery in Minneapolis where she was buried alongside her late husband, Lawrence Samuel Malone. A memorial service will be held in Willmar within a few weeks.
