Mary Meyers

April 17, 1926 — August 24, 2020

Grand Marais

Mary F. Meyers, 94, of Grand Marais died Monday, August 24, 2020 at North Shore Living Care Center in Grand Marais.

She was born on April 17, 1926 to John W. and Nellie (Kreckler) Saylor near New Lebanon, Ohio.  Mary grew up and attended school in Vista, CA. When she was in high school, she was in the National Honor Society and was involved in many different sports, as well as being a cheerleader.

After high school she met and married Roy E. Meyers. They moved to Lake Wilson, MN and on to Granby, CO where they ran a Motel. As the family grew larger, they moved on to Glenwood City, WI, Eagle Butte, SD, Montevideo, MN and back to Glenwood City, where she continued to raise 6 children and did part time work as an accountant/bookkeeper at a Creamery. She was a member of the Methodist Church in Glenwood City.

Mary moved to Grand Marais in 2014, and into the North Shore Living Care Center in 2018.

Mary enjoyed and was very much involved in raising 6 kids. She was a Sunday School teacher for many years. She enjoyed taking care of, and spending time with her granddaughters.  She was an excellent seamstress and made clothes for her own kids when they were in school, and her granddaughters later.   Mary enjoyed baking and cooking and always had delicious treats for almost any event or holiday that came up. She loved to walk and go camping. She loved the outdoors and liked to watch the deer and birds that passed by and fed at her feeders.

Mary was great at writing actual letters and sending cards for birthdays or any other special days. She supported her kids and grandkids in sporting events, musical events, and would travel all over to where the next event was going on. She loved "dancing" when the Portage Band came to the Care Center. She loved little children, dogs and flowers.  She loved to tease people and tell stories any time she could get a 'captive' audience. Mary was a very grateful person. During her time at the Care Center, you could always hear a "Thank you, thank you, thank you," as she was helped with her medicine and other personal needs.

She was preceded in death by her parents: John W and Nellie Saylor; 5 brothers (one of whom had died just a couple weeks earlier), and one sister.

Mary is survived by children Marcia (Bloomington, MN), Jackie (Grand Marais, MN), Gary (CO), Diane (CO), Doug (Cindy) - New Richmond, WI, and Sue - New Richmond, WI; 3 granddaughters; and 3 great granddaughters.
