Mary L. Johnson, 95, Two Harbors, died Monday, September 23, 2019 in Barross Cottages.
She was born October 19, 1923 to Joseph and Grace (Pike) Anders in Two Harbors, where she grew up and graduated from high school in 1941. In 1943 she married Clarence “Booksa” Johnson and after his return from World War II they operated a grocery store in Bingham Lake for a short time and returned to Two Harbors in 1948 where they operated East End Grocery for 22 years. She later assisted “Booksa” in the operation of Northwestern National Life and American Family Insurance offices until retiring in 1986. After retirement they wintered for several years and lived for 3 years in Alamo, Texas. She moved to Rochester, MN and returned to Two Harbors in 2000.
She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Two Harbors and Order of Eastern Star.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Clarence “Booksa”, and a son-in-law, Stephen Komarek.
She is survived by a son, Timothy (Mary) Johnson of Spicer, MN; daughter, Becky Komarek of Two Harbors; a sister, Joan Anderson of New London, MN; 10 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Mary’s family would like to thank the staff at Barross Cottages for their loving care.
Visitation will be from 10 AM until the 11 AM service on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Two Harbors. Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery.
