Marvin Carlson

October 8, 1953 — September 2, 2015

Marvin Stanley Carlson, age 61, of Two Harbors, passed away on September 2, 2015, after a courageous battle with cancer. Marvin was born on October 8, 1953, to Stanley and Alma Carlson and was a lifelong resident of Two Harbors.

Marvin graduated from Two Harbors High School in 1972 and worked at Reserve Mining in Silver Bay for several years. He graduated from Duluth Area Vocational Technical Institute in 1985 with a degree in Civil Engineering. He spent the remainder of his career working for the State of Minnesota’s Department of Transportation until his retirement in 2014.

Marvin loved the outdoors and spent much of his time camping, hiking, biking, skiing, canoeing and snowshoeing. His greatest love, however, was his children and loved the time he spent with them more than anything in the world. He will be remembered by many as a fun-loving and generous man.

Marvin is survived by his mother, Alma Carlson, of Two Harbors; his son, Daniel (Erin) Carlson, of Two Harbors; his daughters Lisa (Kevin) Manson, of St. Paul, and Krysta (Matt Hanson) Carlson of Eagan; his sister, Marilyn (Mike) Cribbs, of Maryland; and two nephews, Erik and Jeremy Cribbs, of Maryland, and their families.

A service will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2015, at 4:00 p.m. at Cavallin Funeral Home in Two Harbors, immediately followed by a potluck celebration of his life at the American Legion in Two Harbors. Marvin loved the outdoors, and we know he would appreciate offerings towards an outdoor memorial bench in lieu of flowers.
