Marland I. Hansen, 85, of Lutsen died Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at North Shore Health in Grand Marais.
Marland was born November 23, 1938 to Isak and Minnie (Moen) Hansen at the family home in Lutsen, where he lived for most of his life. After high school, he earned a Bachelor’s degree from UMD, and later his Master’s degree from St. Cloud State. He was employed as teacher in Isle, Minnesota for seven years before returning to Lutsen to join the family business-Isak Hansen and Sons. He was an estimator for the business and also worked as a realtor, real estate appraiser and assistant assessor for Cook County
Marland was a member of the Lutsen Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Masonic Lodge, and the Eagle Scouts. In his earlier years he served on the Lutsen Town Board and on the Lutsen Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing, boating and skiing, and as a young man was on the UMD ski team.
Marland was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Irving Hansen and a sister, Marie (Harvey) Morck.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; sons, Neil Hansen and Brett (Jeanine) Hansen; grandsons, Darryl (Jessalyn) Hansen and David Hansen; great-grandchildren, Sawyer, Olivia, Paige, and Harper; and a sister-in-law, Sue Hansen.
