Marian Cleveland, 84, of Two Harbors, died in her sleep, Thursday April 11, 2013 at Lake View Memorial Hospital.
Marian was born August 14, 1928 to Hjelmer and Betty (Forsman) Carlson in Cloquet, where she grew up and attended Cloquet High School. She met Harold Cleveland in 1947, and they married in 1948. Marian worked on her farm her whole life until the family moved to North Branch. She was a cook for various restaurants in North Branch.
Marian was a devoted wife and mother. She opened her home to everyone and was "MA" to many. The old saying "behind every great man is a great woman", or maybe it was the other way around?
She loved people, travel, playing cards, cooking, jigsaw puzzles, crafts, gardening, and photography. In her earlier years she loved cross country skiing, snowmobiling, and square dancing. In her later years she really enjoyed her cribbage club and homesteaders club.
She was a 4-H leader for many years and worked with the Lake County Fair board.
Marian was a member of the United Church in Two Harbors, and the Homesteaders.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; granddaughter, Annette; and 4 brothers, Vernon, Roy, Bert, and Kelly.
Marian is survived by her children, David (Nancy) of North Branch, Lester (DeeDee) of Harris, Roland of North Branch, Glenna Streator of Anoka, Daniel and Kelly both of Two Harbors, and Joe (Kris) of North Branch; brother, Floyd (Shirley) Carlson of Cloquet; grandchildren, Jim, Kristin, Theresa, Stephanie, Jesse, Danny, Donald, Richard, Tylar, and Kohl; two great-grandchildren, Baxter and Aaron; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 12 Noon until the 1 PM Memorial Service on Wednesday April 24, 2013 at the United Church of Two Harbors.
