Marian Alvar

Marian l. Alvar, 88, Silver Bay, died Friday, August 13, 2010 in the Sunrise Home in Two Harbors. She was born October 29, 1921 in Minneapolis to Dr. Stillman and Opal (Bates) Hathaway. After graduating from Proctor High School, she attended Lawrence College where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha. She was employed as a secretary at Mary MacDonald Elementary School for many years, was a member of Sychar Lutheran Church, and was active in a variety of organizations including the Order of the Easter Star, Camera Club, and Duluth Women's Institute. Marian was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Genevieve Frisbee, and her husband of 47 years, Carl E. Alvar. She is survived by her four children, Jim of Sun Lakes, AZ, Ken of Middleton, WI, Marcia of Portland, OR, and Sheree King of Finland, MN; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from Noon until the 1 PM service on Monday, August 16, 2010 at Cavallin Funeral Home in Two Harbors.
