Mrs. Margaret Irene Sandvik, 92, of Two Harbors, MN, died Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at the Barross Cottages in Two Harbors.
Born July 7, 1922 in Kettle River, MN, she was the daughter of Emil August and Hilda (Oja) Lampinen. She was the wife of Alfred Sivert Sandvik, her husband of over 60 years, who died November 9, 2007.
Margaret grew up in Kettle River, MN, and graduated from Moose Lake High School's Gold Medal Class of 1940. She served as the Arts and Crafts Director of the then-called Board and Care Center of Two Harbors, and early in life she worked for the Architects and Engineer (A&E) Supply Company in Duluth, MN. She was a dedicated home-maker, enjoyed arts and crafts, cooking, including her family's traditional Finnish recipes, was a seamstress, and shared her love of family and of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a Life Member of the Sons of Norway, a long-time member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, and a long-time participant of their Quilting Circle.
She was preceded in death by a son, Glenn N. Sandvik, (December 1992), and a daughter-in-law, Glennis E. Sandvik (February 1990); as well as four sisters, Ruth Lampinen, Violet Salo, Signe Jutila, and Mable Shorter.
She is survived by a son, Kenneth A. Sandvik of Two Harbors, a daughter-in-law, Sharon L. Sandvik of Duluth, MN; nine grandchildren: Andrew, Peter, Paul, Maria, Matthew, Timothy, Simon, Martha, and Esther Sandvik; and eight great-grandchildren: Cate, Carl, Elaine, Abigail, Sailor Mae, David, Juniper, and Margaret Sandvik; and nieces Lorraine Manty and Ann Holm.
Visitation will be from 10 AM until the 11 AM memorial service on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Two Harbors. She will be interred at the Lakeview Cemetery in Two Harbors, MN.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the donor's choice.
