Margaret A. Johnson, 91, Two Harbors, died Saturday, February 26, 2011 in the Sunrise Home.
She was born September 20, 1919 to George and Nora (Westman) Pyette in Duluth. She grew up near the Baptism River on the North Shore and attended schools in Beaver Bay and Two Harbors. Margaret married Emil Johnson on July 20, 1940 and they made their home in the Silver Creek area, near Two Harbors. She worked in the Two Harbors Clinic while raising their five sons. In 1956 Margaret and Emil moved to Fredenberg Township, north of Duluth, where they owned and operated the Fish Lake Tavern for 27 years. Margaret was also employed as a cook at Hermantown Public Schools. After retiring they moved to Two Harbors. After Emil's death in 1992, Margaret moved to Brook Park, returning to Two Harbors in 2003. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, cards, and games. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the Fredenberg Township Volunteer Fire Department, and served as a senior guide at the Two Harbors Lighthouse and Depot.
Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Emil; son and daughter-in-law, James and Donna, a granddaughter, Michele Hagglund and brothers and sisters.
Margaret is survived by four sons - Terry (Louise) of Two Harbors, Karl (Sidney) of Saginaw, MN, Roblee (Lynn) of Brook Park and Bryan (Penny) of Mesa, AZ; 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Nebenfuhr and Violet Becklund of Tacoma, Washington, a special brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Emmert and Dorothy Johnson of Two Harbors, a special friend, Florence Taylor, and many nieces and nephews.
Margaret's family would like to thank the staff of Lake View Memorial Hospital and Ecumen Scenic Shores and Assisted Living for their care for Margaret.
Visitation will be from Noon until the 1 PM service on Thursday, March 3, 2011 at Cavallin Funeral Home in Two Harbors. Private burial will take place at a later date at Lakeview Cemetery in Two Harbors.
