Mabel Hoseth

November 27, 2017 — October 6, 2017

Mabel Sofia (Oling) Hoseth, Two Harbors, died peacefully on Friday, October 6, 2017 at the Ecumen Care Center.  She and her twin sister, Viola, were born to Swedish immigrant parents, (Albert and Irene (Kronman) Oling,  from Finland on November 27, 1920, at home on the Oling farm outside of Two Harbors.  She had five additional siblings and lived her entire life in Two Harbors.  Mildred Pepin is the one surviving sister.

On December 6, 1941, the day before Pearl Harbor, Morgan and Mabel were married and raised four children (Don, Paul, Jim and Jane).  They were married for 68 years prior to Morgan’s death in 2009.  All of the children were graduates of Two Harbors High School and Minnesota colleges.

Mabel was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and enjoyed helping others wherever she was able.  She served as a den mother for the cub scouts for several years.  After the children left home, she was a Home Health Aid, a life long member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and Ruth Circle.  She loved to take photos and served as the church historian and on altar guild for many years.  Mabel volunteered at Lake View Nursing Home in the activities department for over 30 years.  She loved sewing, knitting, crocheting, gardening and taking care of her outdoor plants.  For many years, golfing was a joy as well as travelling and visiting her children.

In 1967, Morgan and Mabel moved to rural Two Harbors (Waldo).  During these years there were many large gatherings for family members.  Mabel was the welcoming hostess that provided wonderful food, sleeping arrangements and family experiences for the children and grand children.  They moved back to town and eventually to Ecumen Assisted Living.

Mabel is survived by four children Don (Delores) Hoseth, Paul (Jeanne) Hoseth, Jim (Sue) Hoseth and Jane (Ralph-deceased) DeLong.  She also has eight grandchildren – Chad (Amy) Hoseth, Allison (Tim) Rose; Karl (Alison Wigstrom) Hoseth, Mari (Dan) Lysne; Peter Hoseth (Anna Beadle), Tim (Tonia Luk) Hoseth; Rachael (Steve) Chang and Martin (Johanna) DeLong; and 13 great-grandchildren.

The memorial service will be 11am, Monday, October 23 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Two Harbors, MN.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Bethlehem Lutheran Church in memory of Mabel
