Lylia Egeland, 83, passed away peacefully in her home in Two Harbors on August 1, 2011.
Lylia was born May 27, 1928 in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota to Maynard and Ruth Andersen. She graduated from Northwestern Hospital School of Nursing, Minneapolis in 1949. She married Walter Egeland of Two Harbors in 1952 and moved to Two Harbors where she lived the rest of her life.
She was influential in the lives of countless young people in Two Harbors through her work with Girl Scouts, AFS, and Bethlehem Lutheran Church parish education. Her passions included her Two Harbors gardens and volunteering as a second grade reading tutor in the Wimauma (Fla) elementary school.
Lylia was preceded in death by her son Andrew Egeland, her parents, and her brother Bob Andersen.
She is survived by her husband Walter of Two Harbors and Sun City Center, Fla, daughter Tina Hatch (Madison, Wisc), daughter-in-law Kathy (Guenter) Retkowski (St. Charles, Ill), grandchildren Reilly Hatch, MacKenzie and Max Retkowski and three brothers.
A memorial celebration of Lylia's life will be held on Monday, August 8 at 2 pm at Cavallin Funeral Home in Two Harbors. Family visitation will be held at 1 pm.
