Lloyd Houle, 88, Two Harbors, formerly of Silver Bay, died Monday, October 31, 2016 at St. Luke’s Hospital.
Lloyd was born July 14, 1928 at home in Beaver Bay Township to R.J. and Hilja (Haveri) Houle. He graduated from Two Harbors High School in the Class of 1946. After various jobs, he was involved in the surveying for the construction of the community of Silver Bay. He then worked in the maintenance department of Reserve Mining Company for 34 years. During and after his work at Reserve he also worked other jobs including over 20 years as a Lake County Commissioner.
Lloyd was a member of Sychar Lutheran Church, Sons of Norway, Loyal Order of Moose, Taconite Masonic Lodge, Emera Chapter of Order of the Eastern Star, Aad Temple of the Shrine-Director’s Staff and Shrine Clowns.
He enjoyed time with his family, time at the cabin, music and playing cards.
Lloyd was honored as Lake County Senior Citizen Volunteer of the Year, and a tree was recently planted by the Minnesota Veteran’s Home in appreciation of his involvement in bringing the home to Silver Bay.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, John, Roy, and Arthur.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; son, David (Lorrie) Houle; daughters, Barbara Houle Schwanke (Lance), Beth Gunnarson (Jim), and Rennae Houle-Burns (Tom), 12 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandson; a brother Phillip (Carolyn) Houle; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Tiki.
Visitation will be from 5 PM until the 7 PM Masonic Service on Friday November 4, 2016 at Cavallin Funeral Home in Two Harbors. Service will be held 1 PM Saturday, November 5th, at Sychar Lutheran Church in Silver Bay.
