Lillian Sundstrom, 94, of French River, died Tuesday, March 20, 2012, in St Luke's Hospital, just three days before her 95th birthday. As a young girl, she lived on Isle Royale and had many stories to share with her family about life on the island. When they left Isle Royale, they settled in Knife River, where she lived until moving to French River in 1983. Over the years she worked at the Shorecrest Supper Club, Puent's Grocery Store and was the organist at the Knife River Lutheran Church.
Lillian enjoyed many years at the cabin on Pike Lake, painting ceramics, going to Hugo's for pizza and to visit Jody, and going to the Moose for chicken strips every Friday night. The biggest joy in her life was her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hans and Bergina Pederson; brothers, Harry and Ivar; and niece, Carlene (Pederson) Sertich.
She is survived by her husband, Clifford; son, Bruce (Dorie) Eskola of Grand Portage; granddaughter, Jody (Gary) Hepola of Brimson; great-grandson, Jeremy Eskola of Two Harbors; brother, Arnold (Irja) Pederson of Duluth; nieces, Sandra Pederson, Lori Pederson, Mary (Al) Behrends, and Diane Lahti; nephews, Gerry, Robert, Leslie and David Jackson; extended family, Janelle, Brad, Macey, and Bren Jones, and her kitty.
Visitation will be from 10 AM until the 11 AM service on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at French River Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Palmers. Memorials preferred to French River or Knife River Lutheran Church.
