Lester Mattson

Lester L. Mattson, 90, of Two Harbors, died Thursday, February 8, 2018 at St. Luke’s Hospice in Duluth.

He was born June 15, 1927 to Sever and Hulda (Korpi) Mattson in Finlayson, Minnesota.  Lester grew up in Pine County and after serving in the Army and Navy, moved to Two Harbors in 1947.  Lester worked for DM&IR Railroad for several years, and in 1972 was appointed planning and zoning officer for Lake County where he served until retiring in 1985.

Lester was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and the American Legion, and enjoyed woodworking.

Lester is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Phyllis; and a brother Clarence.

He is survived by his wife, Marlene; son, James (JoAnn) Mattson of Grand Marais; step-son, Dana (Sally) Murphy of Two Harbors; sister, Janice Anderson; grandchildren, Jill (Jim) Fisher, Jeff (Mara Peterson) Mattson, Ryan Murphy, and Danielle Murphy; and great grandchildren, Russell, Charles, Alice, and Tanner.

Visitation will be from 10 AM until the 11 AM Memorial Service on Monday, February 12, 2018 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Two Harbors. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery.  To sign the online register book please visit www.cavallinfuneralhome.com.
